The Woodslee Way
Our values play a very important role in the life of your child at Woodslee. They are at the very heart of everything your child will do, encourage your child to talk about their 5R role models and what learning behaviours are expected. Our 5R’s are Respect, Resourcefulness, Readiness, Resilience and Responsibility.
From Little Acorns, Mighty Oaks Grow
Our curriculum is divided into the following areas- Communication & Language, Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Art and Design. We plan activities that are exciting, practical and engaging to all. Topics we are covering this year are Autumn, Celebrations, Space, Dinosaurs, Traditional Tales and Under the Water.
Alongside our topics, we plan activities that follow the children’s interests. This could be superheroes, princesses, pirates and fairies.
We encourage children to be independent in the classroom. We model selecting resources and using the different areas in our classroom. Children can choose where they want to learn and they will also take part in small group activities. Children are supported by their key person. We also encourage the children to go to the toilet independently.
Children are encouraged to have their own water bottle, labelled with their name. Water bottles are kept in the classroom each day.
Please ensure your child has their kit in school.
Change of clothes
Please ensure your child has a change of clothes in school- underwear, uniform, socks. We also ask that all clothing has your child’s name on.
The children will be given age appropriate homework that is fun and builds upon the work the children have done in school time.
In F1 children will be have homework and a Chit Chat book. Both given out on a Friday.
All children in F1 will be given a library book each Wednesday, please ensure this is returned each week so it can be changed.
Reading in F1 should be fun and interesting for the children. Together with their reading book, please encourage children to read a variety of texts such as comics, posters, story books, information books and other sources of text.
We look forward to getting to know you and your child over the coming year and helping your child on the road to success.
We wish our relationship with you to be one of a partnership, home and school sharing responsibility for supporting your child through these crucial years of learning.
We hope you feel happy to come and talk to staff about your child on a formal and informal basis throughout the year.
